Hocking Hills has much to offer. Below are just a few of the many things close to Canopy Ridge Cabins.

ACTIVITIES

  • HIKING, STATE PARKS, FORESTS AND NATURAL AREAS
    Ash Cave

Towering hemlocks, a cascading waterfall and a wide recess cave make Ash Cave one of Hocking Hills State Park's most popular hiking trails. The cave was named for the huge pile of ashes found by early settlers in the cave shelter, however the source of the ashes is still a mystery.

    Buckeye Trail

For nearly 1,400+ miles, the Buckeye Trail winds around Ohio, reaching into every corner of the state. The trail is identified by blue blazes, 2" wide by 6" high, on trees or poles to let you know that you’re still on the trail. The Buckeye Trail part of the hike in Hocking Hills starts near Old Man’s Cave and ends at Ash Cave where you will be walking under, over and around magnificent rock formations.

    Cantwell Cliffs

Remote and eye-catching, Cantwell Cliffs is known for its deep valleys, cliffs and rock shelter. Visitors can either hike the rim trail or follow the narrow passageway along the valley floor. One of the most unique features in the area is sarcastically called the "fat woman's squeeze" which is a narrow passage visitors must access to reach the bottom of the gorge.

    Cedar Falls

Nearly hidden in the thick layers of hemlocks, Cedar Falls has one of the largest waterfalls in the Hocking Hills Region.   Visitors can expect to see moss-covered cliffs, a rugged trail and maybe the remnants of a grist mill that was built above the falls in the mid-1800's.

    Conkles Hollow State Nature Preserve

Visitors hiking Conkle's Hollow trails are in for a spectacular treat of wilderness and high, rugged cliffs. There is both a rim trail which circles the gorge atop the cliffs and a lower trail leading through the hollowed out gorge itself. The trail was named for W.J. Conkle who left his name carved in the sandstone on one wall of the gorge. Be Careful, The upper trail is not recommended for children.

    Lake Logan State Park

One of the best fishing lakes in Ohio awaits sportsmen. The 400 acre lake sports northern pike, bass, bluegill, crappie, catfish and saugeye. The 318 acre park provides scenic picnic areas and secluded walking paths to enjoy the wooded beauty of Ohio's hill country.

    • Hiking Trails:
      • Pine Vista Hiking Trail – 1 mile hike that circles a hilltop, providing opportunities for nature study and wildlife observation.
      • Buckeye Trail – 1.25 mile section of this trail runs through the northwest end of the park toward Hocking Hills State Forest.

    • Swimming: A 527-foot public swimming beach is located on the north shore of the lake.
    • Hunting: Fox, squirrel, raccoon, rabbit, deer, waterfowl, turkey and ruffed grouse may be hunted in season. A valid Ohio hunting license is required.

For additional information on Lake Logan call the State Park at: 740-385-6842

    Old Man’s Cave

One of the most popular attractions at Hocking Hills State Park, Old Man's Cave is a grand display of nature's beauty with its covering of Eastern Hemlocks, sheer cliffs and waterfalls. Thousands of years of water flowing through the valley have cut away the Blackhand Sandstone and provided a trail for visitors to follow. Old Man's Cave features many unique bridges and scenic views.

    Rock House

According to local folklore, Rock House was used as a shelter for robbers, bootleggers and horse thieves.  Now visitors can enjoy a winding forested trail that leads to the only truly cave-like feature in the park.

    Rose Lake

Rose Lake is a 17 acre lake located within the Hocking Hills State Park which is great for fishing and bird watching. Access is off of State Route 374 via a 1/2-mile hiking trail. Each spring and fall the lake is stocked with trout and a valid Ohio fishing license is required. When hiking between Old Man’s Cave and Cedar Falls, Rose Lake marks the halfway point. Swimming is not permitted, but there is a pool available to campers near the park’s dining lodge.
